Stem Cell Self Renewal

The Story.

Stem cells are cells in the body capable of maturing and differentiating into a variety of different cell types. A key property of stem cells is their ability to self-renew: to divide indefinitely and produce a renewing population of cells capable of differentiating into different cell types. This process is essential to tissue regeneration and renewal in many tissues.

The goal of this project was to capture this notion of self-renewal in a somewhat stylized way: to merge the actual biological process (cell division) with a artistic representation that conveyed a sense of life, regeneration, and renewal. The stem cell emerges from a blossoming flower to divide and renew.
