We Bring Science to Life.
We are a Seattle-based scientific visualization studio led by chemical engineering PhD, Brad Krajina. We combine deep scientific knowledge with design principles to translate complex technical ideas into engaging and informative visuals.
Services Offered
We build custom solutions.
We offer end-to-end design services focused on scientific animation, illustration, and data visualization. Some examples of our services include:
Scientific Expertise
We are a PhD-led studio.
We leverage expertise from oncology, molecular biology, engineering, chemistry, bioinformatics, and scientific computing. Our focus is on high-impact, challenging technical communication problems that require deep technical understanding for effective translation. We will dive deep into the technical details of your research, technology or product, help you extract the core message, and create visuals that convey that message to a broad audience.
Innovative Tools
We push the boundaries of science communication.
We build bespoke in-house tools that create new scientific visualization capabilities. Our studio combines 3D graphics, simulation, algorithmic design, computational tools, and digital art techniques to create solutions that seamlessly blend between technical innovation and artistic interpretation. We harness and build tools that allow us to design iteratively with our clients with precision, control, and speed.
We Fuse Rigor with Art.
Our work is deeply grounded in scientific expertise, but aims to elevate your story to its full potential and inspire your audience. But our goal is not just to make visuals that look "fancy." We make deliberate design decisions that are directly motivated by the scientific communication problems you need to solve. We dig deep into the gritty technical details of your work and help you extract, organize, and deliver the core message. We believe that scientific communication can be inspiring for a broad audience while being fundamentally rooted in science.
Leadership
Brad Krajina, PhD - BK SciViz Owner
I am a chemical engineer, a cancer research scientist, and a scientific visualization expert. My scientific career has been driven by the pursuit of an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to science.
I earned my PhD in chemical engineering from Stanford University. At Stanford, I led several multi-lab collaborations on teams of physicists, cancer biologists, tissue engineers, and clinicians, building new approaches to study tissue dynamics.
Following my PhD, I deepened my expertise in translational cancer research as a post-doc at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. There, I worked side-by-side with cancer biologists and clinicians to engineer new platforms for cancer target discovery.
My extensive experience with interdisciplinary collaborations has meant that I have often been in a position where I need to explain complex technical subjects to someone unfamiliar with the field.
Out of both interest and necessity, I spent years honing my own approach to scientific communication. And creating compelling visuals became a pillar of my approach.
Now, as the director of all scientific visualization projects at BK SciViz, I bring the same interdisciplinary approach to all of our client visualization projects. My deep and broad scientific expertise across engineering, chemistry, physics, and biology enables me to engage clients on a deep technical level from diverse disciplines. Meanwhile, my extensive experience in collaborative research environments provides me with a unique perspective on explaining science to non-experts.
