Stem Cell Differentiation

The Story.

Stem cells are cells in the body that are capable of becoming (differentiating) into a diverse range of cell types. Pluripotent stem cells can become almost any cell type in the adult body.

The goal of this illustration was to capture the idea of a cell that holds within it the potential to become almost any cell type, all within a single static image.

The illustration aims to convey the impression that this stem cell is somehow all of these cells and none of these cells at once, with swirling organic forms giving a sense of transformation, and a bouquet of different cell types materializing throughout.
