Click Chemistry

The Problem.

Bio-orthogonal click chemistry is a type of chemical reaction that highly specifiically "click" together certain chemical groups without reacting with biomolecules. The goal of this project was to create a representation of this process that captures this idea in a way that would connect with a broad audience, even those without deep chemistry backgrounds.

The Solution.

To emphasize the selectivity and specificity of the click reaction, we encased each of the click partner molecules in their own sci-fi enclosure, inspired by an electrical plug. The goal was to create something that a general viewer will readily interpret as a device deliberately designed to fit perfectly together, without diving too deep into the mechanistic details.

To emphasize the ability of this reaction to occur in complex biological environments, in both designs, the environment is filled with biomolecules or biological entities, like cells and viruses.
